We all lead busy lives and it can be tough to get up on time in the morning. The last thing you want to do is gain a reputation for being late, whether it’s at school or at work, so sometimes we’re forced to cut down on our morning beauty routine to save time. However, without planning ahead a little, you may not know what to cut first or where you can get away with cutting corners, which can end up with a messy job and a late start to your morning. On the bright side, we’ve got it all figured out for you -- this is what you can do to cut down on your morning beauty routine.
Skip the hair situation
Whether you curl it, straighten it, mousse it, or spray it, your hair is usually the least important part of your beauty routine. If you’re the type that can get away with a wash-and-wear hairstyle, your late mornings are the time to do it, however, if you usually straighten your hair, you might want to try leaving your hair curly. If you’re not used to curly hair care, an easy way to style your hair is to simply make sure your curls are moisturized and wear them loose! If you can’t possibly stand the idea of going out into the public with your hair natural, you can save time on your morning hair routine by throwing it all up into a chic and stylish messy bun.
Cut down on the make-up
On days you don’t have enough time to get dolled up, going natural is your friend. If you’re not one of those girls who can’t leave the house without some kind of make-up on, let your natural face shine! However, if you usually wear a full face and simply aren’t willing to go natural for the day, you can cut down to the basics on your late mornings. For your skin, instead of wearing foundation, cover-up, primer and all the usual suspects, use a 3-in-1 cream like a BB cream. For your eyes, you can get away with a subtle dash of eyeliner and a brush of mascara. While you’re on the go, apply lip balm for a little bit of color in the lips without the trappings of lipstick.
Make sure you’re fresh
If you don’t have the time for a shower (heaven help you if you oversleep that much, but, hey, it happens), you need to make sure you get the basics -- that means you’ve got to still smell fresh. Today is not the day to wear that shirt that you “only wore once,” if you haven’t had the time to shower, you’re going to need fresh, clean clothes. It probably doesn’t need to be said, but today is also not the day to forget your deodorant. Lastly, a small spritz of perfume or cologne will make sure that the first impression you give is fresh, but whatever you do, don’t try to cover up a foul smell with perfume -- people will see right through you!
Wash the basics
If you absolutely can’t shower, make sure you at the very least scrub down the basics. This means your underarms, your feet and your face. Anything else that you think might create a foul smell needs to be washed, too. In a pinch where a shower just isn’t possible, use wet wipes to wipe yourself clean. It is by no means ideal, but it works well enough to get you out the door feeling ready for the day.
Take care of your nails
A wise woman once said if your hair, nails, and skin are on point, nothing else really matters. On days you can’t spend as much time as you’d like on your appearance, make sure you’ve covered your hair, skin, and nails and you’ll be presentable in no time. For your nails, simply make sure they’re trimmed and that your nail beds are clean. Without the time to do a proper manicure, swipe some quick drying clear polish over your nails for a little shine that’ll look like you spent way more time than you actually do on your manicure!
Know your necessities
If you know the basics of your beauty routine that you can’t live without, lay them out before you go to bed in the morning, away from the clutter of the rest of your beauty products. For example, if you’ve got a signature eyeliner look that you don’t want to do away with during a busy morning, set aside the eyeliner you typically use so you don’t have to search for it in the morning! Same goes for hair care and other daily necessities. You’ll be thankful in the morning when you don’t have to search for your basics!
Know what to wearLetting your early morning, sleep addled brain try to figure out what to wear for the rest of the day can never end well, and it’s even worse if you add the pressure of a late start to your morning hurrying you to the mix. To avoid this, ideally, you can decide on your outfit the night before and simply lay it out for yourself so you can slip into your clothes in the morning without a second’s thought, however, if you didn’t have the forethought to design your outfit the evening prior, know the basics of what you like wearing so you have a go-to outfit when you don’t know what to wear. Not only will this save you time, but you’ll also have a solution for the frustration of mornings where nothing seems to fit!
