The smokey eye is elusive. It's a bold and beautiful look seen on red carpets and on some of the most glamorous women in the world. It also seems to be an enigma to many women, but perhaps that's because it seems much more complicated than it is. Many tutorials call for a ridiculous amount of eyeshadows, tools, and steps, but all you really need are three eyeshadows, two brushes, and eyeliner. You can do this with any color palette, as long as you have light, medium, and dark colors to choose from. This tutorial offers a quick solution when you need a last-minute stunning look or a way to impress with minimal effort. When mastered, you can put on your smokey eye in under five minutes!
Step 1: Brown Base
Start by applying a brown base to your lid with a small brush. Go for a medium shade of brown, as you'll be using a darker shadow and lighter shadow later.
Step 2: Darker Crease
With a fluffy brush, apply a darker eyeshadow to the outer corner of your lid and blend it up towards your brow bone. This is where most people get scared of looking too dramatic, but don't worry! The drama is part of the look, and you'll be able to soften it up in Step 4.
Step 3: Under Eye
With the first brush, apply the darker eyeshadow right under your bottom lashes and stop right before the inner corner of your eye.
Step 4: Add Light
With a smaller brush, or with your ring finger, apply a light eyeshadow on your inner corners and blend in. Apply below your eyebrows as well, and take this time to soften out any harshness on your brow bone.
Step 5: Eyeliner
Apply black, or even dark brown, eyeliner to your waterline. If you're comfortable applying winged liner, go for it! If not, a simple thick line on your lid will suffice. This post was originally published on From My Lips
