This Recipe For Red Wine Grilled Cheese Takes The Popular Snack Combo To A Whole New Level
BS in the Kitchen

For as long as we can remember, wine and cheese has been the ultimate snack combo for winos everywhere, and this latest recipe has taken the popular pairing to a whole new level.

The popular food blog, BS' In The Kitchen has combined the two to create the gooey ooey goodness known as red wine grilled cheese -- and yes, it's just as amazing as it sounds.

While it's not quite as simple as just pouring a glass of red wine on your grilled cheese (sigh), it'll only take roughly 25 minutes (Prep time: 15 min; cook time: 10 min) before your well on your way to wine drunk with this easy-to-follow recipe.

To Get Started

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of french bread
  • 1-2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1/2 red onion (chopped)
  • 1 clove of garlic (minced)
  • Dash of rosemary
  • Dash of thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 3/4 cup (give or take) red wine
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese

BS' food blogger known as Bob suggests going with a Cabernet Sauvignon,  but if you want to get creative and are more of a Merlot or Pinot Noir girl there's certainly no harm in that.

He also recommends using shredded Gruyere for your cheese, but once again if you want to jazz things up with pepper jack, Jarlsberg, or mozzarella, (or all of the above) go right ahead.

Now to begin, grab a medium sized pan and turn the stove on to medium heat. Once the pan is hot and ready, add your butter and wait for it to completely melt before throwing in your diced up onion.

As the onion begins to soften and become tender, add your minced garlic, dash of thyme and rosemary, and sauté on low heat for a couple minutes.

Next up, gradually sprinkle in your flour little by little. Once that's mixed in we can't forget the most important step, re: the wine. Reduce the temperature to a simmer until the alcohol has burned off and the reduction is thick like a gravy.

Now, gracefully spread the reduction on either side of bread, add your desired cheese of choice. Next, butter the outer sides of each slice of bread before combining them together into one. Once that's done, grill your sandwich in the pan on medium heat until golden brown on each side and viola!

The mix of cheese and red onion combined with the rich, nutty flavor of red wine pair oh so deliciously into one.

While there are an abundance of grilled cheese combos out there, I'm quite certain there are none better than this one.
